BMI is a common formula used to estimate body fat based simply on height and weight.
Generally, a BMI of 18.8 to 24.9 is considered healthy by many health practitioners.
A BMI of 25 or more is an indication of being overweight and above 30 indicates obesity. This a very simple and generalized way of indexing the mean population.
But does BMI tell the whole story? Not the complete story at all. Some athletes my have a muscular structure that is very low in body fat but calculates high on th BMI. Some people in the normal range may be at risk because the fat may be centered around the waistline.
But generally speaking, by keeping your BMI in the normal range can greatly reduce the chances of you having heart disease or a stroke. Remember that this index is not all encompassing and all factors should be considered.
